The Victor Pinchuk has funded the reparation of compressors for newborn intensive care units at Chernihiv and Uzhgorod maternity hospitals

The Victor Pinchuk Foundation has funded the reparation of compressors for newborn intensive care units at Cradles of Hope partner medical establishments: Chernihiv and Uzhgorod city maternity hospitals. The overall cost of the reparation works is UAH 123 745.

Both maternity hospitals assume de facto the functions of regional perinatal centres and take the major load in Chernihiv and Zakarpattia regions in terms of deliveries among women of the high risk group with pregnancy pathologies and preterm deliveries. Every year, the number of preterm deliveries grows which results in more babies in need of a specialised medical help. On an average, 300 to 350 little patients are treated at newborn intensive care units of the above maternity hospitals.

A continuous functioning of compressors is of uttermost importance to save children’s lives. These are the devices that feed compressed air to artificial lungs that “breath” for the preterm babies who are not able to do it themselves because of immaturity of their own lungs.

The Victor Pinchuk Foundation’s investment into the equipment of the newborn intensive care unit at the Chernihiv City Maternity Hospital over the period of cooperation (2006-2017) has amounted to UAH 1 748 776, and that for the Uzhgorod City Maternity Hospital (2010-2017) is UAH 1 508 425.

During the whole period of cooperation with these medical establishments, the Victor Pinchuk Foundation has been providing a systemic support aimed at technical maintenance and reparation of the equipment supplied.
