Paul McCartney joined the charity fundraising campaign

Sir Paul McCartney joined the charity fundraising campaign in favor of the Children's Department of the National Cancer Institute (Kyiv, Ukraine), organized by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation within Independence Concert, held in Kyiv on June, 14. Famous politicians, businessmen, diplomats and artists came to become the great musician's partners in the charity campaign.

Addressing the Ukrainians, Sir Paul McCartney expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the campaign participants, as well as all the spectators and Ukrainian citizens for helping him "making the show a very special event", that many people around the world became aware of. "This was an outstanding concert. The audience was great. Thank you very much to all of you".

The charity fundraising resulted in the amount of 3 936 243,00 UAH with more than 300 persons joining the campaign. Sir Paul McCartney also gave his generous contribution.

The raised funds shall be spent on a purchase of the new tomographic scanner with a computer workstation for the Children's Department of the National Cancer Institute (NCA). The choice of this equipment has been made on request of the Children's Department of NCA.

Victor Pinchuk, the Foundation founder and Independence Concert organizer: "We are grateful to those caring and high-minded people, who made their contribution to the fight against cancer disease that Ukrainian children suffer of. People of different generations, views and political opinions has come together for the benefit of a vital affair, the result of which is hundreds and thousands of saved children's lives. "Time to Be Together" Campaign proved that together we can listen and sing along the outstanding music as well as do good things. We hope these people's example will inspire the philanthropists for new initiatives in our fight with this dreadful disease and in resolving other social problems in the country."

Grygoriy Klymniuk, the Head of Children's Oncology Department within National Cancer Institute: "Tomographic scanner equipped with a workstation will make it possible to bring the radio diagnostics to an up-to-date level; this, in its turn, will allow better identification of the malignant tumor stage of development, better control and treatment results planning. This equipment will give us the opportunity of performing at least 150 medical investigations a month, which was never possible before; planning and performing the orthopedic operations also becomes possible. What matters is that high operating speed of the tomographic scanner increases the child's examination safety, for infants stay anaesthetized at this time."
