Babyn Yar Holocaust Memorial Center
Babyn Yar Holocaust Memorial Center
We support the Babyn Yar Holocaust Memorial Center project to honor the memory of all those who were killed in September 1941 by the Nazis at Babyn Yar. We support this initiative in order to create awareness for the mass murder of Jews and non-Jews on the territory of Ukraine and the former Soviet Union which is not sufficiently understood worldwide, and to foster tolerance and openness through keeping history alive and teaching the lessons of the past.
For more than a decade Victor Pinchuk and the Victor Pinchuk Foundation has supported events dedicated to Holocaust tragedy to increase public awareness and understanding, particularly among younger generations. Among our projects: “Spell Your Name”, a documentary film co-executive produced by Steven Spielberg and Victor Pinchuk; educational guide on the Holocaust for schools; “Shoah by Bullets: the Mass Shootings of Jews in Ukraine 1941-1944”, an exhibition based on the work of French Catholic priest Father Patrick Desbois, which was presented in partnership with the Memorial de la Shoah and Yahad – In Unum, etc.
The vision of The Babyn Yar Holocaust Memorial Center is to create a unique space that fosters international dialogue and consent, offers a platform for discussion of questions of tolerance, justice and respect, and builds mutual understanding among cultures. The initiative aims at bringing together and supporting all those who work for a memorial and museum at Babyn Yar as a crucial missing part of Europe’s memorial landscape. The initiative strives to be completely transparent, open, inclusive and sustainable.
