PinchukArtCentre completed the Applications Procedure for the Future Generation Art Prize

Members of the International Selection Committee, who will nominate a final shortlist of the Prize, are announced

KYIV, UKRAINE, May 24, 2012
The PinchukArtCentre has completed the application procedure for the second edition of the Future Generation Art Prize. Since February 6, 2012, the democratic application procedure has allowed more than 4 000 young artists from all continents, representing 134 countries, to apply. All art works were accepted strictly on-line.

Just as in 2010, the most applications come from European artists. The second most active region is Asia. There has been a strong response from South America, Australia, Africa and Oceania, demonstrating how successfully the Prize has extended its global reach, involving artists from all different regions around the world.

More than 50% of the artists are younger than 30 years old, and the proportion between male and female artists is almost equal.  

In total, applicants presented more than 21 000 works including all existing media: painting (5 941), graphics (755), drawing (1 500), installation (3 474), sculpture (2 482), photography (3 152), video (1 832), mixed technique (2 229).

In addition, upon the completion of the application procedure for the Future Generation Art Prize, the PinchukArtCentre announces members of the Selection Committee that will be considering applications submitted for the competition. They have been chosen by the members of the Jury of the Prize, internationally renowned professionals in contemporary art.

The members of the International Selection Committee are:

  • Jacopo Crivelli Visconti – Independent Curator and Writer (Brazil)

  • Bjorn Geldhof – Artistic manager of the PinchukArtCentre (Ukraine)

  • Sally Lai – Director of Chinese Arts Centre (UK)

  • Eva Scharrer – Curatorial Researcher and writer for DOCUMENTA (13) (Germany)

The Selection Committee will nominate a final shortlist of twenty artists that will be announced in June, 2012. Ukrainian artist Nikita Kadan, winner of the national PinchukArtCentre Prize 2011, will be added to 20 shortlisted artists, bringing the total number of artists nominated for the Future Generation Art Prize 2012 to 21.

The exhibition of 21 shortlisted artists will open at the PinchukArtCentre on October 27, 2012. The International Jury will come to Kyiv to select and announce the Future Generation Art Prize 2012 winners during the Award Ceremony on December 7, 2012.
