Three projects of Zavtra.UA scholars to be supported by the Foundation and the Global Office have been selected at the 10th Youth Forum organized by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation

On 16-18 June, 2017, the Victor Pinchuk Foundation held the 10th Youth Forum in Kyiv where the Zavtra.UA programme scholars developed 24 social projects to address the challenges that inhabitants of the Donets’k and Lugans’k regions are facing.

Upon jury’s decision, three best projects will enjoy technical and financial assistance of the foundation and of the Global Office civil organization that is partner of this year’s Forum. Level of elaboration of a project, relevance of the subject, communication skills of the teams and their willingness to contribute to the process of the country transformation were the main criteria of selection.

The first place was given to the project “ХЕ-menu” intended to address the issue of low awareness among people who are affected by diabetes and the general public as for the importance of the XE calculation, as well as lack of full information on the ingredients of food at public catering facilities. The participants suggest providing professional medical assessment of food ingredients as an alternative menu. The project implies involving public catering facilities as partners to implement the idea. The team that has developed the project includes: Polina Ignatchenko, Olena Chegodayeva, Olga Yekimenkova, Vasyl Kramarets and Aliona Yatsenko.

The second place was given to the project “Express-test” that suggests providing express testing in towns in the East of Ukraine to reveal HIV-positive people and individuals infected with hepatitis B. As part of the project implementation, further diagnostics and treatment as well as efforts aimed at establishing the statistics regarding the epidemiological situation in Ukraine are planned. The members of the team are Dmytro Afonin, Olga Gliva, Yevhenii Grechukha, Oleksandr Sokolenko and Andriy Maranov.

The third place was given to the project “disinFAKEtion” aimed at addressing the issue of the low media awareness of the Eastern Ukraine population which reveals the lack of ability to evaluate facts and information objectively. The developers suggest organizing training modules and media forums focused on the use of social networks, fact check means and possibility of use of up-to-date media tools. In future, the project will be extended to the whole Ukrainian territory. The project was conceived by Kateryna Verbynska, Olena Kostyniuk, Svitlana Liuta, Olga Sarakhman, Glib Stryzhko and Vladyslav Vasyltsov.

The Forum was held in partnership with Global Office civil organization as part of the Go East programme, aimed at reintegrating the population of the areas adjacent to occupied territories of Donets'k and Lugans’k region into the Ukrainian information space.

The 10th annual youth Forum of the Victor Pinchuk Foundation’s Zavtra.UA and WorldWideStudies scholarship programs has brought together about 400 scholars, including 9 grantees of WWS program to study abroad at the world’s best universities and 100 new Zavtra.UA scholars. The Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman, musician and public leader Svyatoslav Vakarchuk, Dzerkalo Tyzhnya newspaper editor-in-chief Yuliya Mostovaya, MP, civic activist, and founder of the Global Office Mustafa Nayem and businessman and philanthropist Victor Pinchuk took part in the award ceremony.
