Ambassador of European Union to Ukraine Hugues Mingarelli Met With Scholarship Holders of the Victor Pinchuk Foundations’ Zavtra.UA program

May 31, 2017 Ambassador of European Union to Ukraine Hugues Mingarelli met with scholarship holders of the Victor Pinchuk Foundations’ Zavtra.UA program, which aims to promote a new generation of intellectual and business elite who will be a generator of future changes.

During an informal conversation they discussed the prospects of cooperation between Ukraine and the EU. In particular, they focused on the most important issues for positive transformation in the country such as decentralization, rule of law, economic area, administration and health reforms.

Addressing the young audience, Hugues Mingarelli said that the European Union has two main objectives in Ukraine: to help in preserving the independence and the territorial integrity of the country and to back the reform process toward more democracy and better economic performances. He noticed that the EU is much more active and much more influential in the second dimension.

Ambassador Mingarelli claimed that Ukraine would be the perfect place to invest if foreign investors would be guaranteed a fair competition and a respect of their property rights, but it is not the case yet because of corruption. Therefore, the judiciary system of Ukraine needed to be reformed in order to support prosecution through the independence of judges. The EU, for its part, continues to defend and convey the experience to anti corruption agencies, as it helped with the electronic declaration of assets before.

The "Zavtra.UA" program regularly organizes meetings for scholars to exchange visions and active dialogue between world leaders and a new generation of leaders who will influence on country’s future.
