The Victor Pinchuk Foundation purchased two lung ventilators for the needs of the Chernivtsi Regional Perinatal Center

As part of the joint charity initiative Ukraine Relief Fund, founded by Victor and Olena Pinchuk and the Victor Pinchuk Foundation, Eric and Wendy Schmidt and Schmidt Futures, Robert F. Smith and Vista Equity Partners, the Minderoo Foundation of Andrew and Nicola Forrest, Bill Ford and the General Atlantic Foundation, for the needs of the neonatal intensive care unit of the Chernivtsi regional perinatal center, two AVEA lung ventilators of the world's leading respiratory equipment manufacturer VYAIRE Medical (CSHA) were purchased at a total cost of UAH 2,188,700.00

The Chernivtsi Regional Perinatal Center provides highly qualified obstetric-gynecological and neonatological care to residents of the Chernivtsi Region and the city of Chernivtsi. Despite the difficult situation caused by the war on the territory of Ukraine, the staff of the institution works selflessly 24/7, providing the full range of timely medical care to women and newborns. From the first day of the full-scale russian invasion, 1,018 babies were born in the center, of which 264 babies were to be born in other cities and towns of Ukraine.

Due to a significant increase in births due to pregnancy from the war zone and front-line regions, the number of babies who were born prematurely and require long-term care and treatment in the neonatal intensive care unit has also expanded significantly since March. As of July, almost 160 children, including 108 prematurely born. Even in peacetime, the level of equipment of this department did not fully meet the standards adopted in Ukraine, and during the war, the issue of shortage, in particular, of breathing equipment for babies, became even more urgent. That is why, at the request of the administration and staff of the Chernivtsi Regional Perinatal Center, the Victor Pinchuk Foundation handed over two expert-class ventilators to save the smallest.

"The staff of the Chernivtsi Regional Perinatal Center would like to express their gratitude to the Victor Pinchuk Foundation and Western partners for extremely important help," says Ilya Koshurba, medical director of neonatal care. - It is especially valuable now, in these difficult days for our country, when thousands of pregnant women have been forced to leave their native homes in the war zone and give birth to their children in safer cities, including in our perinatal center."
