The Victor Pinchuk Foundation has provided funds of UAH 47 448 to the newborn intensive care unit of the Rivne Oblast Perinatal Centre as part of technical support for the Cradles of Hope partner centres. This amount has been used to have the artificial lungs repaired.

The Oblast Perinatal Centre is the first and the only 3rd level prevention and treatment facility in the Rivne Oblast focused on highly specialised medical help to women and newborns. The major activity of the perinatal centre is help in cases of early deliveries, pregnancy and deliveries with somatic and obstetric pathology complications, nursing preterm babies during the neonatal period and providing medical help to reproductive age women.

In February 2013, the Victor Pinchuk Foundation supported the reconstruction of this medical facility, provided its newborn intensive care unit with up-to-date medical equipment for an amount of UAH 3 908 153, and opened the 29th Cradles of Hope partner centre on its base. The foundation has funded UAH 220 412 for technical support over 7 years of cooperation with this facility. Additionally, Rivne centre staff regularly takes part in training events organised under the Cradles of Hope project.

Halyna Kovaliova, deputy chief medical officer: “We are sincerely grateful to the Victor Pinchuk Foundation for the technical capacity provided and the regular support with equipment repair and staff training. This time, thanks to the Victor Pinchuk Foundation’s contribution, we have had the artificial lungs’ humidifiers repaired and flow sensors replaced, and bought generators and varied size bonnets for the non-invasive ventilation units. Proper artificial lung ventilation with monitoring of the flow, temperature and humidity of the oxygen-air mixture for preterm babies is key to successful treatment of infants and their further quality of life.”

Over the period of cooperation with the Rivne Oblast Perinatal Centre under the Cradles of Hope project (2013 – 2019), 23 379 infants have been born at the centre, including 2 196 babies that were treated in the newborn intensive care unit. According to the centre specialists, 1972 infants were saved thanks to the equipment supplied by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation.
