The Victor Pinchuk Foundation has covered the cost of repair of compressors for the Cradles of Hope partner centre in Kherson

The Victor Pinchuk Foundation has funded the repair of two compressors that support the functioning of artificial lungs ventilation devices for the Cradles of Hope centre operating on the base of the newborn anaesthesiology and intensive care unit at the Kherson Oblast Children’s Clinical Hospital. Following a maintenance and replacement of worn parts, the compressors continue assuming their important function. The overall cost of the reparation works is UAH 52 500.

The Kherson Oblast Children’s Clinical Hospital is the only treatment and prevention establishment in the region having a capacity of 540 beds, and concentrating all types of special help for children’s population of the capital and rural areas of the oblast. It provides regular consultation support and hospital admission for babies with heaviest and most complex pathologies. The newborn anaesthesiology and intensive care unit was launched in 1992: it was one of the first of the kind in Ukraine. It hosts up to 300 little patients from the maternity hospital and maternity units of Kherson and its region every year.

The Victor Pinchuk foundation started its cooperation with the Kherson Oblast Children’s Clinical Hospital in July 2010 by opening its 21st Cradles of Hope partner centre on the base of the newborn anaesthesiology and intensive care unit. UAH 1 279 370 was allocated by the Foundation to purchase advanced preterm babies nursing medical equipment that was handed to the aforementioned unit, including: artificial lungs, incubators, a resuscitation system, monitoring devices allowing for control over patients’ vital functions, a computer station etc.

Over the period of cooperation with the Kherson Oblast Children’s Clinical Hospital under the Cradles of Hope project (2010 – 2nd quarter 2018), 2 492 newborn have been treated in the intensive care unit, and 2 299 of them were saved. According to the centre specialists, 1 191 infants were saved thanks to the equipment supplied by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation.
