The Victor Pinchuk Foundation has covered cost of medical equipment repair for Zhytomyr Oblast Perinatal Centre Intensive Care Unit

In continuation of its efforts to provide technical support to Cradles of Hope partner centres, the Victor Pinchuk Foundation has had the hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy treatment device and two infant warmers operation renewed at the newborn intensive care unit of Zhytomyr Oblast Perinatal Centre. The cost of repair of the aforementioned baby rescue devices has amounted UAH 71 970.

Recently, the Zhytomyr Cradles of Hope centre has celebrated its 10th anniversary. In June 2008, the Victor Pinchuk Foundation handed best advanced medical equipment to all units of the centre. More specifically, delivery rooms, the surgery bloc, the intensive care and obstetric resuscitation unit, the newborn resuscitation and intensive care unit, the family planning and antenatal foetus protection centre and the laboratory received new equipment, and the central sterilization unit was fully set.

Thanks to the Foundation, a comprehensive mechanism was launched for the first time in Ukraine on the base of a state-owned in-patient delivery facility that offered the full range of medical help to new mothers and newborns, meeting best international standards. The Zhytomyr Oblast Perinatal Centre became later an exemplar facility to be followed in improvement and equipment upgrade of perinatal units and services in other regions of the country, including the New Life nation-wide project.

Today, the Zhytomry Oblast Perinatal Centre is one of the best and biggest capacity state-owned obstetric medical establishments in our country where best modern perinatal techniques and preterm baby nursing methods have been introduced. The staff of the centre regularly hold onsite trainings for their colleagues from all over Ukraine, take part in visiting master classes and contribute to international conferences as speakers.

Yurii Vaisberg, chief medical officer: “Today, women from all over Ukraine come to deliver at the Zhytomyr Oblast Perinatal Centre. It is a truly European level of infrastructure, the successful implementation of best techniques of medical help to women and newborns, the high professionalism and commitment to work of the whole team of the Centre that bring people here. We are proud with our achievements and figures in work, and we are infinitely grateful to the Victor Pinchuk Foundation that had made a major contribution to the modernisation of our establishment, and has been comprehensively endorsing us for 10 years in our aspiration to improve and move forward.”

Over the period of cooperation with the Zhytomyr Oblast Perinatal Centre under the Cradles of Hope project (2008 – 1st quarter 2018), 39 144 babies have been born at the centre, including 2 664 who received help in the newborn intensive care unit. According to the centre specialists, 2 409 infants were saved thanks, among other factors, to the equipment supplied by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation.

The overall investment of the Victor Pinchuk Foundation into the Zhytomyr Cradles of Hope centre over the period of cooperation has amounted UAH 7 065 132.
