Infant breath resuscitator purchased for the Cradles of Hope centre in Uzhgorod under the project “BDayVyklyk: first breath”

Under the charity project “BDayVyklyk: first breath” initiated by Ukrainian Kateryna Sadova with support of the Ukrainian Philanthropic Marketplace, the third infant breath resuscitator NeoPuff TM RD-900 was purchased. This time, the device was handled to the Victor Pinchuk Foundation’s Cradles of Hope partner centre operating on the base of the Uzhgorod City Maternity Home. NeoPuff was commissioned on the 30th of January, 2018.

The medical establishment mentioned above is subordinated to the Uzhgorod City Council, but de facto, it assumes the function of an oblast perinatal centre. It is the biggest capacity maternity in-patient hospital in the region hosting traditionally a large number of deliveries and concentrating all the gravest cases of obstetrical and extragenital pathologies and early deliveries. It is at this establishment that more than 30% of all preterm babies in the oblast are born who require a special care. More than 250 little patients are treated in the intensive care unit every year.

The Victor Pinchuk Foundation Вopened the 22nd Centre for help to newborns “Cradles of Hope” on the basis of the Uzhgorod City Maternity Home in December 2010, as part of the Foundation’s cognominal programme. The intensive care unit received up-to-date medical equipment to nurse preterm babies, amounting overall UAH 1 257 389.

The Neopuff device is intended to treat infants’ breath disorders and allows carrying out the Sustained Lung Inflation manoeuvre that is widely used in European countries and in the US. It has already proven its high efficiency, especially to provide breath support to newborns at the first minutes of living onsite in delivery rooms. The device cost is UAH 125 365.

The head doctor of the Uzhgorod City Maternity Home Oleg Onopko thanked the initiator of the charity project “BDayVyklyk: first breath” Kateryna Sadova and all compassionate people who joined the fund raising for the precious investment into the health of little Transcarpathians and assured that the rescuscitator is being already actively used by the maternity specialists.
