Viktor Yanukovych

Viktor Fedorovych Yanukovych

Prime Minister of Ukraine

Viktor Fedorovych Yanukovych, Ukraine's Prime Minister, was born on July 9, 1950 in Yenakiyevo, Donets'k region of the country, in a working class family.

He was graduated from the Donets'k Polytechnic Institute (now the Donets'k State Technical University) with a major in mechanical engineering, and the Ukrainian Academy of Foreign Commerce with a Masters Degree in international law.

Mr. Yanukovych started his career in 1969, working in the gas works of Yenakiyevo Metallurgical Plant. Over the following 20 years, Mr. Yanukovych held a series of leading positions, including Director General of Industrial Associations Donbastransremont and Ukrvuhlepromtrans, as well as the Donets'k Regional Territorial Association of Motor Transport.

In August 1996, Mr. Yanukovych was appointed Deputy Head, and in September that year, First Deputy Head of the Donets'k regional state administration, Deputy of Donets'k regional council pluralistically.

On November 21st, 2002 Mr. Yanukovych was appointed Prime Minister of Ukraine.

On July 4, 2004 he was nominated by the Party of the Regions for President of Ukraine.

On August 4, 2006 Ukraine's parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, approved Viktor Yanukovych as the Prime Minister of Ukraine.

Mr. Yanukovych is a Doctor of Economics, Professor, Full Member of the Academy of Economic Sciences of Ukraine, as well as a Member of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

He has been awarded with the Orders of three degrees "For Merits" Honored Transport Worker of Ukraine, and other state decorations.

Mr. Yanukovych and his wife, Lyudmyla Oleksandrivna, have two sons: Oleksandr and Viktor. He enjoys playing tennis, and likes hunting and pigeon-breeding.
